Russian TV Channels’ Air Not to Be Cut Down
11:20, 03/02/2003, NEWSru.com

In Moscow there finished negotiations between RTR channel of Russia, National TV of Belarus and leadership of the National radio-television transmission center, RTR press-service reports that in course of the meeting the sides solved all problematic issues on two Russian channels’ broadcasting on the territory of Belarus. In particular, they reached an agreement on providing Russian RTR channel with 20 hours of daily air, which is more than before, reports RIA “Novosti”. They will also fully resume the radio broadcasting of “Radio Russia” and “Mayak” on the territory of Belarus.

Previously there emanated information from Minsk that they stopped broadcasting channels RTR and “Culture” on February 1 in country’s seven towns.

As reported before by the sources in the department of public relations of the Belarusian National TV company, seven transmission stations, which previously used to televise Russian programs in Braslav, Bragin, Zhlobin, Maisk, Zhitkovichi, Slonim, Smorgon and Krichev will be taken over by the regional channels.

Speaking of Russian TV channels, the BT sources underscored that currently they are dealing with the financial aspect of broadcasting RTR programs in Belarus. “The problem has to be considered as purely economic one. They got to pay for our transmitters, particularly because the RTR channel is a commercial one,” – said representatives of the company.
