“How would you define the political regime, which currently dominates Belarus?” – Minskers were inquired by the “Zerkalo” pollsters of BelaPAN in course of the January 23-27 poll. In total, they surveyed 500 Minsk residents, aged 18 and over. 40% regard the present-day political regime as the “regime of personal power”, while 20% called it “dictatorship” and 11% - “democracy”.
Among those, who believe it to be democratic, 74% are aged 50 and more. Pensioners constitute 42% of that number.
5% of respondents assume that there’s a military-police regime in the country. The rest of the polled – 24% - couldn’t clearly answer the proposed question.
In the analogous survey, held by “Zerkalo” in April 2000, 26% Minskers defined the ruling regime of Belarus as the “regime of personal power”. Therefore, over the past less than three years the number of Minskers, who consider it to be the regime of personal power augmented by 14% (from 26% to 40%).
