Hussein May Count on Lukashenko’s Help 15:54, 04/02/2003
Alexander Lukashenko called “symbolic and non-accidental” the Iraqi ambassador Salman Zeidan’s handing in his credentials to the Belarusian incumbent on Tuesday. “Iraq may count on Belarus’ support to an extent, which is possible under the current circumstances,” – said Lukashenko, addressing the diplomat.
RIA “Novosti” correspondent quotes the Belarusian leader as saying that Iraq is a friendly country for Belarus and official Minsk values a lot their bilateral relations, considering them “really beneficial”. According to Lukashenko, in the near future the bilateral relations will progress even more.
The head of Belarus reiterated that Minsk’s position towards Iraq is “transparent and open” and that he’s satisfied that the analogous position is held by a number of European countries. “I’m convinced that the decisiveness with which the Iraqi nation stands up for its sovereignty and independence, will be rewarded,” – said Alexander Lukashenko.
In his turn, the Iraqi ambassador passed over to Lukashenko Saddam Hussein’s warm greetings and reassured the Belarusian president of his aspiration to build up friendly relations between the two countries.
