Ivonka Survilla Calls on Belarusians to Celebrate Proclamation of BPR 16:44, 10/02/2003
Chairwoman of the Belarusian People’s Republic’s Council Ivonka Survilla called on Belarusias to take part in street demonstrations, marking another anniversary of the BPR’s proclamation: “On March 25, 1918 BPR Council proclaimed Belarus as an independent, democratic country. If we had a possibility to protect our newly gained independence, our country would now occupy its worthy place in the family of other world’s free nations. We would be living normally, not fearing to speak out our minds and vote for those candidates, who can do most for our good and the good of our homeland. Our goal then would be not fleeing abroad in search of freedom and bread, but building life in the country, as our neighbors now do. However, in reality everything turned out quite the opposite way.”
Commenting on Russia’s proposal to incorporate Belarus, Survilla said the following: “Moscow can’t tolerate the existence of free state, which must be reckoned with, lying between it and Kaliningrad. Moscow will do her best to get us trapped into the empire. The first response to Putin’s proposal could be the street rallies, which will rock Minsk and other Belarusian towns on our national March 25 fest. On that day the whole of the Belarusian nation must show to the world that its freedom, independence, property, money and territory cannot be exposed to blackmail or trade,” – BelaPAN quotes Ivonka Survilla as saying in her open address.
