The Frunzensky district court of Minsk ruled to fine former Belarusian Premier Mikhail Chigir over 2bln Belarusian rubles ($1mln) in a lawsuit, filed against ex-PM by the “BelagropromBank”, which he headed eight years ago.
On February 7 judge Natalia Varenik of the Frunzensky district court of Minsk for the second time sued Mikhail Chigir. Last year she found the man guilty of negligence at work, as a result of which “BelagropromBank” lost $1mln40thsd. On February 7 she satisfied the bank’s suit, based on her last year’s ruling.
Judge Natalia Varenik listened carefully to the arguments of the sides and in two hours passed her final verdict, under which the bank’s lawsuit to Mikhail Chigir must be fully compensated, while the sum in dollars has to be paid in Belarusian rubles’ equivalent. As a result, the jury ruled to fine Mikhail Chigir 2bln35mln Belarusian rubles.
If you remember, that’s the Prime Minister’s third judicial process. Previously, he received 3 years of suspended freedom restriction and was banned to occupy leading posts for the period of five years. Add here seven years of jail to his junior son Alexander Chigir and two conditional years of imprisonment to his wife Julia.
“That’s what my refusal to follow Lukashenko’s policy and joining opposition camp cost me,” – “Radio Svoboda” quotes Mikhail Chigir as saying.
