Grodno Journalists Plead with Authorities to Amnesty Pavel Mozheiko 12:27, 11/02/2003
Grodno affiliate of the Belarusian Association of Journalists forwarded to the administration of the Zhodino penitentiary and the Committee for penalties’ execution of the Interior Ministry of Belarus a petition on the application of amnesty to the journalist Pavel Mozheiko.
These petitions have been forwarded in connection with the fact that March 1, 2003 will turn half year after the employee of the Grodno independent newspaper “Pagonya” has been put in incarceration. Six months is exactly half of the term, to which the man was condemned and, under the law, it can be the time of early release, given the man was obedient and law-abiding enough during his term.
BelaPAN reports that the authors of the petition plead to attach this document to the materials, which will be forwarded to the court of the town of Zhlobin. They also called on the public to support their appeal.
