Belarus Readying for Iranian President’s Coming :: Charter'97 :: News

February 11 evening deputy Foreign Minister of Islamic Republic Iran Mohsen Aminsade arrived in the capital of Belarus. His official visit, due to last till February 13, is called to usher in the first ever trip to Belarus by the Iranian president Mohammad Khatami.

Belarusian FM press-service reports that February 12 will see consultations between the countries’ Foreign Ministries. They also scheduled on their agenda the Iranian FM representatives’ meeting with the leadership of the presidential Administration, the “lower chamber” of parliament and the Ministry of industry.

The governments signed a range of treaties – on trade-economic cooperation, encouragement and mutual defense of investments, evasion of double taxation on incomes and property, international automobile transportation, air flights and other, reports BelaPAN. They likewise ratified memorandums on mutual support and cooperation in culture, education, sport and tourism.

Trade turnover between the two countries rose from $89thsd in 1993 to $38,7mln in 2001. Belarusian export to Iran dominated over the import from that country and amounted to $37,9mln in the year 2001.
