Tadeush Pavlyak: Political Dialogue Between Belarus, Poland Complicated 16:39, 18/02/2003
“We have always stated that the level of Belarusian-Polish relations is to a large degree defined by the coordination between the European Union and candidate-countries,” – said the newly appointed plenipotentiary ambassador of Poland in Belarus Tadeush Pavlyak in an interview, published on February 18 in “Narodnaya Volya” newspaper.
He also reiterated that Poland is now a NATO’s member. “We actively develop our contacts with the Belarusian neighbor on both international and regional levels,” – said the ambassador: “Rise in the level of dialogue mostly depends on the improvement of bilateral relations’ climate. It is my greatest desire that the political dialogue between Poland and Belarus gets enlivened, though it’s a very complex issue”.
The ambassador said that his short-term goals at the post are: assisting the economic cooperation and deepening ties between the public societies of both countries. “A lot can be done, I guess, in order to enhance opportunities for Polish community in Belarus and Belarusian – in Poland. In Western Europe the national minorities are no longer looked down to as some unwanted child, whom they don’t know what to do with, but cannot abandon anyway. To the contrary, they’ve already turned into one of the main factors of regional development there,” – said he.
