Orthodox Church Signs Deal with Frontier Troops 11:14, 19/02/2003
The State committee for frontier troops and the Belarusian Orthodox church signed yesterday a cooperation agreement. The persons, whose signatures were put under its text, were the head of the committee, lieutenant-general Alexander Pavlovsky and the archbishop of the Belarusian Orthodox church Filaret.
The document is aimed at the reinforcement of interaction in the sphere of patriotic education of the homeland’s defenders as well as restoration of Orthodox military traditions and rituals. It is also envisaged that the soldiers are free to voluntarily aid in restoration and construction of temples and other cultural institutions.
BELTA was told in the press-center of the State committee of frontier troops, that the agreement is supposed to establish partnership relations between the church and the frontier troops. Lat year, for instance, the clergymen paid visit to frontier camps, where they talked to soldiers and passed around Orthodox literature.
