OSCE OA Head: That’s Purely Procedural Decision 11:24, 21/02/2003
OSCE PA president George Bruce noted after the recognition of the Belarusian “parliament”: “We aren’t creating any artificial hindrances. For us it is sufficient that the country ratified Helsinki agreement, Political Charter and the government is represented in OSCE. Hopefully, this won’t be interpreted as our support of something that’s going on in Belarus. It’s a totally procedural decision”.
US delegation’s member Stanley Hoer said the following in an interview to Radio “Svaboda”:
“The majority from the Assembly came to the conclusion that there exist other parliaments, which had never been democratically elected, but still are members of the Assembly. Therefore, nobody in our country or in Europe in general, must think that they somewhat approved the Belarusian parliament. They simply solved a narrow procedural issue”.
