Everyone realizes pretty well that Alexander Lukashenko intends to run for his third consecutive term in office. Although he never declared his plans in open, everyone knows exactly what he is up to. The trade union boss Kozik recently said that he is ready to nominate Lukashenko for five terms… How about we recall the president’s pre-election promises, dating back to 1994, when he engaged in his first presidential race.
“Belarusians! I have freed myself from the yoke of the past now and for all times and the proof of that is this my confession before you. I’m calling you to the future and propose neither socialism, nor capitalism but the third way towards order, welfare and justice.
As candidate for the president I promise and guarantee you:
- immediate expulsion from state bodies of all those, who don’t want to follow me;
- return of the wealth, stolen from the people by “mafia”. I will personally redistribute all the unjustly gained riches;
- provide employment and free healthcare on European level and best education;
- prices and inflation will simultaneously diminish, while salaries and pensions will rise to the world’s level, no matter what all economists and bankers say about the impossibility of that;
- there will be no more vain words – only the fulfillment of programs on aiding all needy ones by the government;
- compensation of population’s lost deposits in 1985 dollar rates.
