Lukashenko Sends Personal Missive to Non-Alignment Movement 11:45, 25/02/2003
On February 24 the capital of Malaysia Kuala-Lumpur hosted official opening of the XIII meeting of heads of states and governments of the member-states of the Non-Alignment Movement. 111 delegations arrived to engaged in the summit out of the 114 expected. 59 of them were represented by the heads of states and governments. The Belarusian one was headed by Foreign Minister Mikhail Khvostov. Belarus, elected as Vice-Chair of the Summit, spoke during the opening ceremony on behalf of the Movement’s European members. Belarusians also passed over Alexander Lukashenko’s personal missive to the chairman of the Movement Mahathir Mohammad, Malaysian Foreign Minister.
The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, apart from the direct participation in the forum, will also engage in consultations on preparing the text of the Kuala-Lumpur Declaration. Khvostov also resumed a series of bilateral negotiations and meetings with his colleagues from Zambia, Libya, Malaysia and South Korea.
On February 24 the Belarusian representative at the summit delivered their official vision of the world’s development tendencies and informed the participants of the forum about Belarus’ economic potential.
