ILO to Remind Belarusian Authorities of International Commitments 12:18, 26/02/2003
Ahead of the following session of the committee for the freedom of association of the International Labor Organization, scheduled for March 6, the International Confederation of free trade unions forwarded to the ILO director general Huan Somavia their address, calling on him to remind the Belarusian leadership about the commitments, they bound themselves with when entering this organization and ratifying its fundamental conventions, reports BelaPAN.
The letter cites most fresh examples of trade unions’ rights violations in Belarus. It mentions that the Belarusian authorities did nothing to fulfill recommendations of the committee for the freedom of association, passed in November 2002. The Confederation officials claim that the world community must confront with all decisiveness the unceasing human rights violations in Belarus.
