Belarus Set to Tie Non-Alignment Movement, CIS 11:41, 26/02/2003
Belarus is ready to become a connecting link in the dialogue between the Non-Alignment Movement and CIS on most poignant problems of the present-day, said at the Movement’s XIIIth plenary in Kuala-Lumpur on Monday the Foreign Minister of Belarus Mikhail Khvostov. In his opinion, the Non-Alignment Movement’s activities must be based upon the dialogue between nations and civilizations.
“Rosbalt” was told in the Belarusian FM press-service that Mikhail Khvostov called the Non-Alignment Movement’s summit to be quite crucial for Belarus. “That’s the Movement’s first meeting on such a high level, where Belarus participates as full member-state,” – explained the Belarusian Minister: “Engaging in the non-Alignment Movement’s activities, Belarus aspires to make her own deposit into the demolition of any barriers of distrust between the states and the nations. Participation in the Non-Alignment Movement opens new horizons for the development of bilateral trade with our partners from the Movement.”
The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry proposed to fully use the large potential of the Non-Alignment Movement in order to seriously improve the existing multi-sided system of international trade operations and commerce.
Touching upon the crisis over Iraq, the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the Non-Alignment Movement must remain a “convinced adherent of the continuation of inspections in Iraq and consequently uphold purely political methods of solving the problem”.
