Independent “Vecherny Stolin” Suspended from Publishing for 3 Months 16:07, 03/03/2003
Under the order#29 of the Minister of information Mikhail Podgainy of February 26, 2003 they halted for three months the issue of the independent newspaper “Vecherny Stolin”. The reason for that move were “blatant violations of the Law on press”, reads the text of the order.
According to the official version, that found expression in the change of the newspaper’s theme from industrial-practical to the massive-political without inserting the proper amendments into the newspaper’s registration certificate.
BelaPAN learnt from credible sources that the chairman of the Stolin district executive committee Vladimir Pashkevich instituted defamation suit against the newspaper, demanding to refute some of the previously published allegations and reimburse 4 million rubles in moral damages.
