Five UCP Members Won Deputies’ Mandates
16:43, 03/03/2003

Only 5 members of the United Civil Party became deputies of the local councils as a result of the first round of voting: Sergei Klimenok (Vileika), Mileschenko Zinaida (Kruglyany), Kekelev Igor (Uvarovichi), Valukevich Evgeny (Pruzhany), Galaktionov Alexander (Mstislavl). 14 other nominees will contend for the office in the second round of voting. The rest of the UCP candidates are no longer in the race.

The United Civil Party recorded numerous cases of electoral law violations and abuses during the elections into the local councils. Literally hours before the official start of the ballot the authorities removed from campaign Svetlana Koroleva, Sergei Alfer, Evgeny Lobanovich and Ivan Lobachev, who had great advantage over their contenders in the race, as testified by the sociological polls.

Elections in Mogilev were characterized by the electoral commissions’ members’ particular intolerance towards the observers. They were not only prevented from executing their duties, but weren’t even allowed to visit the vote count procedure at the polling stations. They treated even worse the trustees of the candidates, who had been simply denied access there on pretext that they had been supposed to register one day prior to the ballot,” – reports UCP press-service.
