Free Trade Union Boss Pledges to Engage in People’s March
14:54, 04/03/2003

Chairman of the Free Trade Union of Belarus Gennady Bykov upholds the implementation on March 12 of the People’s March “For Better Life!”. The trade unionist told Charter’s press-center that he would surely and personally engage in the action, for the situation in the country is deteriorating so speedily and to such an extent that no one can tolerate the regime’s lawlessness any longer.

“The problems today are experienced by every worker and every laborer. Disastrous economic condition brought about the price-growth, while salaries in January diminished by $10 as compared with December. Plus there was a tremendous rise in public utilities’ tariffs,” – says Gennady Bykov.

Gennady Bykov is convinced that the upcoming People’s March may help overcome people’s passiveness. “One can overcome people’s passiveness through such actions. The citizens of the country, who are discussing their problems only at kitchens, will realize that others aren’t at all afraid to take to the streets and demand the solution of their problems,” – said the trade union leader.
