EU Rings Alarm Bells Over Fate of New OSCE Office in Minsk 16:48, 06/03/2003
The European Union once again reiterates their call on the Belarusian authorities to pass all necessary measures to create favorable conditions for the work of the new OSCE office, headquartered in Minsk, reads the EU official statement, circulated by the German embassy in Minsk on March 5.
EU impatiently looks forward to receiving the report of the head of the OSCE office’s mission Eberhard Haiken on the progress in the formation of such conditions, reports BelaPAN. The EU, reads the text of the statement, takes into account the decision of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on the recognition of the “national assembly” of Belarus, but underscores that it is a procedural decision and doesn’t reflect the achievements of Belarus in human rights and democracy spheres. EU also pointed out the rapport of the OSCE PA group on Belarus, made shortly after the group’s visit to Minsk this February, which reads that the Belarusian authorities aren’t democratizing their society at all.
