Minsk City Court Turns Down Lebedko’s Lawsuit to KGB 11:13, 07/03/2003
Committee for civil cases of the Minsk city court declined to satisfy the appeal of the United Civil Party leader Anatoly Lebedko over the illicit issue of official reprimand on part of the Belarusian KGB.
As you remember, on January 23 the court of the Central district of Minsk recognized unjustified the lawsuit, filed by the leader of the United Civil party Anatoly Lebedko against KGB’s arbitrariness. Politician, in his turn, demanded to nullify the official reprimand, passed against him by KGB on November 5, 2002. Its text read that Lebedko maintained confidential contacts with the foreign surveillance.
The politician commented on the court’s ruling to the UCP press-service in the following way:
- Everyone has a choice, judges being no exception. You can choose either to be a true judge or judicial killer. In order to be a real judge in Belarus, one must have great reputation and image, for he’s running a huge risk. One can easily get deprived of his job, apartment and face other inconveniences. Something that happened today and earlier on in the Central district court is just the same arbitrariness that the authorities had been doing before.
