Belarus’ Defense Minister Sets Off for Abu-Dabi A Day Before War
12:35, 12/03/2003, Roman Yakovlevsky, for Radio Ratsya

Lukashenko intends to send his envoy to the Middle East. To be more precise, his Defense Minister Leonid Maltsev. A day before the announced day “X” for Saddam Hussein, on March 16 Abu Dabi – a constituent territory of the United Arab Emirates – will host international arms exhibition, where the Belarusian representation will engage.

Belarusian military will participate in the traditional international exhibition in Abu-Dabi not for the first time. Defense Minister colonel-general Leonid Maltsev is no novice at it. At last year’s exhibition they showed the modernized T-2 armed personnel carrier, which provoked great interest of the Arab purchases. The machine is covered with a special anti-radar protective armor as the US plane “Stealth”. It is supposed to fight in the conditions of desert. This time they are bringing over there another sample of some new advantaged weaponry, manufactured by the Belarusian company “Minator service”.

Along with the important cargo the country will be visited by the group of journalists from the Military TV of the Belarusian Defense Ministry. Maltsev and his deputy Rogozhevsky will head there on Friday. It is no secret that the Iranian and Chinese buyers are interested in the Belarusian optical devices and other products. They also take interest on the surveillance machine T-2, which has no analogies worldwide, as claimed by its makers.
