ZUBR Signs Memorandum with Lithuanian “Movement of Young Liberal Democrats” 16:27, 12/03/2003
Coordinator of the Belarusian movement of non-violent youth resistance ZUBR Vladimir Kobets signed on behalf of the organization a Memorandum “On mutual understanding” with the Lithuanian “Movement of young liberal democrats”. The goal of the Memorandum is to help our country out of the self-imposed isolation and follow the path of the democratic transformations, integrating deeper into the international community.
EU enlargement eastwards, reads Memorandum, makes us consider this problem from another perspective, for Belarus is already a neighbor of NATO and will soon turn into a EU member too. As a European country, Belarus has the right to engage in the European relations, which is next to impossible with the current regime in power, reads the document. Radio Ratsya was told by ZUBR movement’s coordinator Vladimir Kobets that the goal of the movement is democratization of the Belarusian society and assistance to its accession into the European Union and NATO.
“One of ZUBR’s major goals is the country’s democratization and accession to EU and NATO, so today we are seeking partners, who support us in that; who support democratization, our work, who even today want to join EU and NATO. Lithuanian liberal democrats signed the first such Memorandum with them and even today continue to carry out concomitant work in Brussels,” – Radio Ratsya was told by Vladimir Kobets.
