IFATCA May Shut Skies for Belarusian Aviation
17:38, 13/03/2003

Annual session of the International Association of Aviation Dispatchers IFATCA, due to take place on March 17-21 in Buenos-Aires, will consider the dispute between the Belarusian trade union of aviation dispatchers and the State committee for aviation.

IFATCA is keeping a close eye on the situation with trade unionists’ rights worldwide. The International Association mediates all world’s conflicts between the aviation employers and trade unions. As a matter of fact, after the involvement of the Association in the dispute, any problems, linked with trade unions, have been solved positively. However, Belarus may now well become an exception.

IFATCA have already proposed assistance in settling down the conflict between the Belarusian aviation dispatchers and the State committee for aviation of the Republic of Belarus. No official reaction on part of the Belarusian authorities followed. The trade union of aviation dispatchers, which entered the International Association in the year 2002, is currently on the brink of liquidation. The root-cause for that is in the conflict of aviation dispatchers with the employer – “Belaeronavigation” company, which is part of the State committee for aviation. The pretext for that could well be the results of examination into the trade union’s affairs by the transportation procuracy, reports BelaPAN. The latter claims that the trade union lacks enough members to be registered as the republic’s organization.
