Free Trade Unionists Readying to Protest :: Charter'97 :: News

On May 22 the Belarusian trade union of automobile and agricultural machinery plans to launch in Minsk an action of protest against the deterioration of living conditions in Belarus. In the near future another trade union structure will also have to decide on its involvement in the upcoming action – the trade union of radio-electronic industry.

Originally, the action was scheduled for April but the organizers determined that it would be too hard to get it prepared over the period of time left. In early next month it will also be difficult to attract enough people to it, as far as on May 1-12 the labor groups of the large companies will go on the so-called spring vacations in connection with the May holidays.

The action will take the form of the meeting. It is expected to be held not in the Bangalor square, where the Minsk city hall usually allows to organize mass events, but rather in the “50 years of October revolution” park. This place was chosen because it is located in the neighborhood of the Zavodskoi district, on whose territory the city’s biggest enterprises are located.
