Defense Ministry regards the fax from the Borisov repair plant, found at the Iraqi national army base, “phony”. The document, unearthed by the Radio Svaboda correspondent Ron Synovits, mentions the proposal on the sales of military services and equipment by Belarus to Iraq. However, the Defense Ministry’s refutation doesn’t provide exhaustive answers to the posed questions anyway.
Representatives of the Assembly of non-governmental democratic organizations of Belarus called a series of lawsuits of the Justice Ministry, submitted in April against democratic NGOs, “a political cleansing” campaign, unleashed by the authorities.
Alexander Lukashenko categorically protested against using the pretext of anti-terrorist struggle in order to unleash open military aggression against the sovereign countries for the sake of some third states. “War against Iraq undermines fundamental UN principles and intensifies contradictions between North and South,” said the head of state at the Monday CIS meeting in Dushanbe. “Diminution of the UN role in regulating the situation in Middle East testifies to the hegemony of one superpower at the international arena,” – said Lukashenko.
Lukashenko is quite a naïve person. He always grumbles over something. The organization of regional integration, set up upon the initiative of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine, didn’t last for two months yet but he already feels like forsaking it. He called it “ineffective” and a “waste of time”. Numerous experts and politicians do their best, calculate the ways and variants of the further integration perspectives, while Alexander Lukashenko stands firm on his position: the new association gathered for three times now but to no avail. “There’s still no movement forward”.
