Western Germany President Urges Lukashenko to Stick to International Values
11:40, 04/07/2003

The president of Western Germany Johannes Rau called on Alexander Lukashenko to keep to the fundamental values, recognized by the international community. In his Thursday written missive to the head of Belarus on the occasion of the Independence Day of Belarus, Rau emphasized the efforts of EU and Germany to help Belarus set up democracy structures, establish the rule of law and market economy system. Meantime, the message reads that “there’s still a lot to be done ahead”.

In particular, said the president, “Belarus’ devotedness to the standards and fundamental values, accepted by the international community, in deed rather than words, will efficiently accelerate the improvement of relations between Belarus and Europe,” – reports “Deutche Welle”.
