The Supreme Economy Court of the Republic of Belarus will examine the suit of the editorial staff of the newspaper “Navinky» against the Information Ministry. The reason for bringing the action was the notification from 22 May 2003, that the newspaper received ‘for the violation of the article 5 of “ Law about the printing and other mass-media» committed in â ¹ 11(90) and in ¹ 8(87) 2003 in the articles “encroaching on the morality of citizens”. After that the publication of the newspaper was cancelled.
Let’s remind that “Navinky” got its first notification on 21 May “for violation of the article 5 of “Law about printing” committed in ¹7(86) this year for the publication of two pictures of the president accompanied by the abusive comments. The editor-in-chief Pavel Konovalchik was fined for 100 units (1.400.000 rubles). Two notifications given are the reason for the Information minister Michael Podgajnij decision to suspend “Navinky”s coming out for the term of three months.
The “Navinky” editorial staff told BelaPAN that they will try to achieve in legal form the recognition of the second notification invalid. This way the reasons for banning the newspaper will disappear.
