Belarusian president is one of the most prolific newsmakers on the territory of the ex-URSS. Having dismissed some representatives of the government including premier-minister, he doesn’t seem to calm down. The talks about Alexander Lukashenko’s intentions to prolong his powers for another 10 years flared up again. And they say that there is a plan how to do it.
By the way, last week Belarusian president said that he is going to work at his post all the current term without changing anything. And according to his words we can be sure that in the nearest future no political fights would take place in Belarus.
“Belarusskaja delovaja gazeta” the publication of which is halted by the authorities until the end of August still holds the idea of trying to publish the materials of its journalists in other editions. Instead of Belarusian publication of the Moscow “Novaja gazeta” expected this week the “BDG” editorial staff published the next issue of Baranovichy “Mestnaja gazeta”. Last week “Mestnaja gazeta» was deprived of the possibility to be published in Slonim after having gave its pages to “BDG” journalists for the first time. On Thursday however a new issue of “MG” was published on the territory of Belarus. This newspaper has a circulation of 10 thousands. The owner of the enterprise “Marat” that publishes “BDG” Petr Martsev doesn’t reveal the name of the printing office that has printed the newspaper, Radio Liberty reported.
In Belarusian institutions of higher educational a new discipline “Basis of Belarusian State’ ideology” will be introduced from the beginning of 2004. As ‘ Rosbalt” reported, The Belarusian Minister of Education Petr Brigadin told journalists about this on Thursday during the press conference in Minsk. The initiator of introducing in educational institutions of the ideological course and the author of its basic thesis is Alexander Lukashenko.
In Czech Senate the sitting of the committee the main task of which is the support of freedom and democracy in Belarus was carried out. Initiator of creating of the committee for the Czech part were senators Jan Ruml, Daniel Kroupa, Martin Mejstrik well known in the country. On behalf of initiators of creating of the committee “For free Belarus” Daniel Kroupa said: “ Realizing our responsibility for the common values of freedom, democracy, human right’s respect that create the base of the European civilization we protest against the methods and regime of the last European dictator- Alexander Lukashenko.”
The results of the work for the first 6 months are the following: the part of unprofitable trade enterprises makes 45.6%. Retailed trade and public catering have worked at a loss, only wholesale enterprises have had little benefits. Belarusian Deputy Minister of Trade Michael Sventitsky gave this information during the press conference on 23 July.
The level of unemployment in Soligorsk in the first half-year increased by 17 % in comparison with last year. In the city 12 unemployed aspire to get one vacancy. Moreover, only construction workers are required. No vacancies for such ill-paid professions as caretaker, cleaner and sanitary engineer. On the other hand there is a lack of 15% specialists with higher medical education and 20% of employed medical workers reached the retirement age. However for young nurses who come back to their parents after having finished medical college there is often no work in the local territorial-medical association.
