“Mestnaja Gazeta” remained without printing-house

The director of the Nesvizh Symon Budny printing-house Alexander Ladiata is discharged. The press-service of the Belarusian Journalists Assosiation was informed on 28 July. Last week the printing-house published the issue of Baranovichy “Mestnaja Gazeta” with the materials of the banned by the authorities “BDG”. Today Liadata himself called the editor-in-chief of “MG” Anatolyi Voitsehovsky, told about his dismissal and apologized himself for not having the possibility to follow the agreement between the edition and the printing office.

Regions celebrated the Independence Day

The democratic public of the regions celebrated the Independence Day, on July 27 - the day of adoption of the declaration on Independence of our country. In the morning of 27 July the dwellers of three Borisov regions saw white-red-white flags flying over their houses. The national flags were hung out in front of the Officers’s House, on the Revolution Avenue and in the “old’ town. The action was organized by the youth’s movement “Zubr”.

The picketers demand to get rid of “vertical”

The members of the Pinsk Helsinky Committee, Belarusian social-democratic Gramada, Belarusian social-democratic party (Narodnaja Gramada) organized the sanctioned action of protest in Pinsk (Brest region) on July,25. The picketers demanded Alexander Lukashenko’s and the president of Pinsk city executive committee Vasilyi Shust’s resignation. The action was timed to coincide with 9th anniversary of first Belarusian president’s presidency (from the very first day of his presidency –10 July).

A new “speaker” is appointed to “parliament”

Today the former Belarusian premier Gennadij Novitskyi was appointed the president of “republican council of national assembly”. This decision was made on July, 28 at the extraordinary session of the “parliament” upper chamber. The extraordinary session of the “republican council of national assembly” has been convoked today on initiative of the head of Belarusian state Lukashenko in connection with the election of president of the “republican council”. The republican Council ruled to relieve Voitovich of the “republican council” member’s post. This decision is stipulated by the fact that Alexander Voitovich has reached the age-limit prescribed for being on state-service – 65 years.

The picketers on Independence Day are on trial

The court sittings on the case of “Zubr” activists – participants of yesterday’s action - -were carried out today in the building of Moskovsky district internal department. The judge of the Moskovsky district imposed a fine of 150$ to Dmitry Zhamoitits and reprimanded Pavel Yuhnevich. The policemen Shpakov L.E. and Pashkevich E. N. who arrested the picketers gave evidence against them, “Zubr” movement’s press-service reported.

Flowers for Yanka Kupala

The Belarusian opposition activists organized an action timed to coincide with the 13th anniversary of signing Declaration on Independence of Belarus. The “Interfax” correspondent reports that the action involved about 40 activists of the Belarusian social- democratic party “Narodnaja Gramada” and youth’s organization “Molodoy front”. The participants in the action laid flowers on the monument of Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala. The “Molodoy front” activists raised the banners with anti-Russian slogans and claimed the necessity to fight for the national sovereignty and independence of Belarus. The action was carried out without excesses.

Constitutional act is put aside

The constitutional act between Belarus and Russia won’t be adopted in the course of the next two years, the president of the “Republican council of National Assembly” of Belarus Alexander Voitovich told journalists on July, 25.

Ruml does not yet have visa to Belarus

Senate deputy chairman Ruml, who ranks among the critics of the authoritarian regime of Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, would like to visit Belarus but he still has not received a visa though he applied for it as early as February. "I will have to press for it," Ruml told CTK today.

Liquidation is no more lighted up

On July. 25 we learned about the liquidation of the next in turn public organization. This time the victim is Public Assosiation “Center of the youth’s research “Kontur”, The inquiry from the Justice administration of the Vitebsk region executive committee has been issued on July, 2, but the head of PO Siarjuk Serabro learned about the liquidation one of these days. On 29 July the sitting of the court examining this case will take place.

Action on Independence’s day

The Supreme Soviet of the BSSR adopted the Declaration on Independence of Belarus on July 27, 1990. We celebrated this date as Independence’s day till 1996 – until it wasn’t annulled and put off on the beginning of the month by Alexander Lukashenko. However the democratic publics still celebrate this date on 27 July. Yesterday in the Independence’s square 9 activists of the youth’s movement “Zubr” confirmed that they still follow the tradition. The young people engaged in the action “Long life to the Independent Belarus!”.

As it was expected the trip of the ‘Gasprom” deputy president Alexander Riazanov to Minsk didn’t lead to the rapprochement of the contracting parties’ positions without mentioning any agreements. He took with him to Moscow only the protocol where the differences of the parties over “Beltransgas” privatization are officially fixed. As “Vremia novostey” reported, the talks failed because of the Belarusian president’s position who wants to decide these questions with Vladimir Putin personally.

In 2003 the number of unemployed in Belarus has increased by 22 %

According to the June’s data of the current year 141 000 of unemployed are registered in Belarus. This number has increased by 22% if compared with June, 2002. The Belarusian Embassy in Moscow was informed that in January-June of the current year 156 000 persons asked for help state organs on employment. 93 000 persons are employed and 63 000 are temporarily sent to fulfill public works. At the total the number of unemployed makes 3,2% of the economically active population of Belarus.
