The number of unemployed has increased :: Charter'97 :: News

For the 6 months of 2003 the number of unemployed in Belarus has increased by 4000 persons or by 2,8%. According to the Analysis and Statistics Ministry’s data 141 thousands of unemployed were registered in the end of June. It’s by 22% more than for the analogical period of the last year.

The level of unemployment constituted 3,2% of the economically active population of the republic. Moreover the highest indexes were observed in Vitebsk, Mogilev, Brest and Gomel regions. The Analysis and Statistics Ministry reported that in the whole for the period of January-June of the current year 156 thousands persons turned to the state employment services asking for help. 93 000 including 68 000 of unemployed are employed. Apart from that 63 000 are sent to fulfill public works.

The volume of all paid unemployment benefits constituted 1,3 mlrd BYR (about 5mln$). The average dole for one unemployed was at 22 000BYR (about 10 $) in June.
