On Tuesday, September 23 Alexander Lukashenko met with the general prosecutor of Belarus Viktor Sheiman, who presented his report on the prevention of corruption and organized criminality in the most profitable branches of the state economy. As a result of the work, accomplished by the procuracy along with other law-enforcement and controlling bodies, there had been revealed 10thsd229 crimes of economic orientation, and had been found over 4thsd persons, who had committed these misdemeanors. They carried out inspections at the companies and organizations of the fuel and energy complex, metallurgic and oil chemistry industries, car-building, objects of financial and crediting system, housing. Over 40 former heads of large companies and their structural subdivisions, as well as other top officials were either condemned or faced accusations of power abuse.

As reported by the prosecutor general, the outcomes of investigations manifest that on part of certain Ministries and other state bodies there hadn’t been undertaken proper measures on controlling the subordinate companies. Lukashenko was also notified of the analysis of the facts, testifying to the intentions of certain individuals to use the bankruptcy mechanism for getting in control of some companies. Sometimes the privatization bodies committed violations of legislation when evaluating the cost of privatization objects and the formation of their statutory funds. There also occurred the deliberate diminution of the evaluation cost of the state property.

Alexander Lukashenko required from the procuracy to raise effectiveness of the organized events on thwarting the arbitrary activity of the corrupted officials and organized criminal bands at companies, operating in most lucrative economic sectors. The head of Belarus entitled the prosecutor general to strengthen surveillance over the legality in the activities of other law-enforcement bodies and coordinate work in finding and thwarting corruption and power abuse incidents.
