Iryna Khalip was Summoned to the Office of Public Prosecution :: Charter'97 :: News

The journalist Irina Khalip was summoned to the General Office of Public Prosecution of Belarus. She had to give clarifications about her articles, published in the Russian “Novaja Gazeta”-“Sadam can be hiding in Belarus” and “The Belarusian Bluff Maker pretended to be a Girl”.

As Khalip informed Charter, her clarifications were taken by the prosecutors, Hramahowsky and Radzionaw. “They offered me the already given answers. They said that in the article “Sadam can be hiding in Belarus”, I state that Lukashenka can be supportive of the international criminals. They asked me a lot of questions about what the word “a bluff maker” meant. When I said, that it’s the synonym of the word “a liar”, they started blaming me of calling the president a “liar”, said Iryna Khalip.

Iryna Khalip supposes that her visit to the Office of Public Prosecution has to deal with her recent trip to Strasburg to the OSCE parliamentary session, where she made a report on freedom of speech in Belarus.
