Andrei Sannikaw:”The USA has no Illusions about the Belarusian Regime” 17:23, 15/10/2003
Andrei Sannikaw, the international coordinator of Charter’97, a member of the Council of the democratic block “Free Belarus”, paid a visit to the United States of America. During his visit a number of meetings were held at the State Department, the Congress, the Senate, a number of human rights’ defending organizations and at the offices of the largest American newspapers “The New York Times” and “The Washington Post”. Andrei Sannikaw also met with the leading American analytics, some of them represented the Heritage Foundation, and with a famous political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski. The main topic of discussions during these meetings was the situation in Belarus.
As Andrei Sannikaw said at Charter’s press-center after his coming back, “The USA has no illusions about the Belarusian regime and understands that the natural development of Belarus is slowed down by this very regime, which, moreover, made impossible any normal relations in the trading and economic sphere. The next step is to be taken by the Belarusian people, which cannot take Lukashenka’s unfulfilled promises anymore, and must take the next step by voting for new authorities and a new way of development.”
