Kindling of Disagreement between Nations at Kazaks’ Congress in Minsk 17:35, 29/10/2003
The representatives of Jewish organizations are going to appeal to the Office of Public Persecution of Belarus and to the Committee of the Religious and National Affairs of the Ministers’ Council due to “the kindling of disagreement between nations at Kazaks’ Congress,” said Jakau Basin, the director of the Belarusian Office of the Association of the Committees in Support of the Jews from former USSR.
The Supreme Kazaks’ Congress took place in Minsk on October 25. Some editions were circulated, such as five issues of “The Russian Herald” and some brochures, including “A Public Prayer for the Salvation of our Russian Motherland and Its People from the Yoke of the Jews”. Jakaw Basin reminded that “The Russian Herald” is banned in Belarus. Nevertheless, this newspaper was received by “The Orthodox Book”, which is a part of “The Orthodox Initiative, Inc.” “It is a violation of the Criminal Codex, art. 130 on the kindling of disagreement between nations “ said Jakaw Basin.
Yuri Dorn, the leader of the Jewish Religious Association, also considers that the Orthodox Church has to make a clear statement on the spreading of anti Semitists editions at the congress. Jakaw Gutmann, the leader of the World Association of the Belarusian Jews, said, “What happened at the congress is the continuation of the politics of “Orthodox Initiative”, which published “The War by the Laws of Meanness”. This book, published in 1999 is freely sold at the bookstore “The Orthodox Book”. All the previous attempts to sue the publishers and sellers were in vain.
