On October 30 the Ministry of Justice of Belarus starts checking the activities of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions, BCDTU, and its agencies, such as the Free Trade Union of Belarus, the Free Union of Metal Workers, the Democratic Trade Union of Transportation Workers, and the Belarusian Independent Trade Union of Miners, and Chemical Industry Workers.
In his speech at the official meeting devoted to the 85th anniversary of VLKSM Alyaksandar Lukashenka stated about his intention to revive kamsamol and suggested that administrations should start working on the creation of the prior organizations, especially rectors at universities.
Yet another Belarusian non-governmental organization has been closed following a decision by the Supreme Court yesterday. “The closure of the Human Rights Center Vesna, one of the leading NGOs focused on protection of human rights and election monitoring is a serious setback and unfortunately the latest result of what must be described as a governmental campaign against independent NGOs” said the Head of the OSCE Office in Minsk, Ambassador Eberhard Heyken, today.
At the present moment people cover about 40% of the costs of the communal services, as the Deputy Minister of the Housing and Communal Services Valery Novak reported yesterday. “The population cannot pay for all the services, which are, moreover, not of the appropriate quality,” said Novak.
