The Activists of the Conservative Christian Party BNF have been arrested in Vitebsk
17:33, 04/11/2003

On November 2, the police arrested 7 activists of the Conservative Christian Party BNF, Uladzimir Pleschanka, Alyaksandar Salaujan, Ales Pazniak, Jan Dzerzhavets, Aleh Jamialianau, Ihar Matsveeu and Tamara Momchyts. They were carrying a cross to commemorate Stalin’s repressions victims, who were shot on Uspenskaya Hill.

By that time the BNF member had already set two crosses, but the police broke them, the plates were torn off, and the flowers and the candles were ruined.

As Radio Freedom reports, the court trial started on November 3. The Judge of Kastrychnitski district court of Vitebsk Maryna Marozava banned the journalists out of the court, making the trial closed.

According to the police protocols, the arrested violated the law on the street manifestations.
The Judge managed to start only two trials, Uladzimir Pleschanka’s and Alyaksandar Salaujan’s. The further hearings have been rescheduled to November 17. Other cases were passed to the Judge Zubritskaya. The five arrested are to come to court on November 11.
The cross will be the main evidence of the administrative offense.
