Svetlagorsk regional consumer society annulated its contract on selling a non-governmental newspaper “The Region News” in its stores. It happened after Baliaslau Pirshtuk, the head of the regional executive committee, saw the newspaper in a provincial store.

Human rights defenders brought to silence: urgent need to support belarusian civil society

We, delegates to the Human Rights House Network’s annual meeting express our deep concern about the Belarusian authorities’ campaign to destroy civil society in Belarus. The campaign appears to be a systematic attempt to silence human rights defenders and prevent the development of a pluralist democratic society.

The Russian Committee for Civil Rights addressed a letter to Alyaksandar Lukashenka in support of Belarusian rights’ defending organizations. A copy of the letter was directed to the Russian President Uladzimir Putsin. The press service of the liquidated Rights’ Defending Center “Viasna” informed BelaPAN.
