KGB tries to hire a deputy

Ales Mikhalevich, a deputy of Puhavichy district council, told the Radio Freedom journalists about the KGB attempts to bring him to cooperation. According to Mikhalevich, once he refused, he got blackmailed.

Ales Mikhalevich is a 28 year-old director of a private tourist company. He is the chairman of Minsk region organization of the Belarusian People’s Front. This year Mikhalevich was elected a deputy of Puhavichy district council as a representative of the Belarusian People’s Front. A man, who called himself Syargey and a KGB employee, invited him to a caf? for a talk.

“At the beginning he made some offers. The main offer was to help me to be elected, as he knew about my plans to run for a post in the House of Representatives. He said that depending on my response they will help me or not. Then there were soft threats. He said that everybody is sinful, everybody got problems,” said the deputy.

The deputy refused to cooperate.
