Belarus Wants Its Own TV Tower :: Charter'97 :: News

Construction of Belarusian TV tower without drawing foreign investment has become the main topic of the discussion at the sitting of the Ministers’ Council of Belarus held on December 16 under the chairmanship of Syarhei Sidorski, acting Prime Minister, the ‘Obozrevatel’ (Ukraine) correspondent from Minsk informs.

As Belarusian government thinks, TV tower would solve a number of problems in the development of telecommunication. Designing and construction of this object is planned for 2004-2006, and without the use of international investment. Minister of Communication Uladzimer Hancharenka proposes to include the TV Tower into he State investment program, and as the main sources of funding the state budget, Minsk budget and innovation foundation of Minsk are named.

Approximate cost of the 50-storey tower which is to be 410-420 high is estimated 85 mln dollars. The Ministry of communication is ordered to present technical and economical validation of the project to the government.
