The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially submitted a report of the deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council Christos Pourgourides to the chamber of representatives “On the missing persons in Belarus”, the newspaper “Belarusskiy Rynok” (The Belarusian Market) informs. The official Minsk abstains from comments.
C. Pourgourides visited Minsk on November 5-8. He presented a report on the results of his visit. He comes to a conclusion that the Belarusian authorities have not carried out investigation of the disappearances of Belarusian oppositionists duly and that the highest state officials can be involved to the abductions.
Mr. Pourgourides advocates independent investigation of the disappearances of ex-minister of Internal affairs Yuri Zakharanka, former vice-speaker of the Parliament, chairman of the central election committee Viktar Hanchar, and businessman Anatol Krasowski. The reporter supports dismissal of the officials who can be participial to the abductions of the opponents of the ruling regime, and proposes to engage courts of the states having international jurisdiction to legal investigation of this case.
Previous to that Pourgourides had made a report on persecution of independent mass media in Belarus.
