No Comment On Brussels Initiatives From Belarusian FA Ministry
15:33, 09/01/2004

The Belarusian authorities have not received the official document of the European commission on the beginning of investigation of trade union rights in Belarus – said press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Savinykh to Radio Svaboda.

Accordingly, there is no official comments on this steps made by Brussels, as the FA Ministry is to wait for information from the European Union and only then the statement in response would be made, said Mr. Savinykh.

If the allegations of violations of trade union rights in Belarus are proven to be true, Belarus may lose tariff preferences in trade with the EU. It will cost about 100 million Euros to the country. The investigation will last six months.
