Prime Minister of Belarus Sergey Sidorski has confirmed the intention of the Belarusian government to pay off the $129-million debt to OJSC Gazprom. The confirmation was pronounced during Sidorski`s working visit to Gomel.
Sidorski emphasised, now Belarus has no problems with paying for energy resources supplied. Neither RAO UESR nor OJSC Gazprom lay any claim on us, said he.
The Prime Minister also gave a hint that Belarus will not experience troubles with gas supplies in 2004. It will be warm in the flats of our people, he stressed.
Interfax reported earlier, December 5 2003 OJSC Beltransgaz and OJSC Gazprom signed an agreement to restructure the debt for the natural gas supplied as of January 1 2003. Following the agreement the Belarusian debt went up from $129.4 million to $137.7 million due to penalty fees imposed on past contracts.
