Christos Pourgourides Prepares a “Bomb”
12:01, 13/01/2004

Christos Pourgourides, a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rapporteur on high-profile disappearances in Belarus is indignant by the absence of reaction of the Belarusian authorities to the memorandum on the cases of the missing people. He says that this fact only confirms that his memorandum on high-profile disappearances is well-founded. If by the end of January winter session of the PARE assembles, its juridical committee would discuss the final report by Christos Pourgourides.

In the beginning of January Christos Pourgourides gave time to the Belarusian authorities to answer to his memorandum “Disappearances in Belarus”. However, as C. Pourgourides told Radio Svaboda, he had not received response from the Belarusian authorities. Now he started preparing a final report. Christos Pourgourides made it clear that the text of this report could become tougher to the Belarusian authorities, which he is determined not to address anymore.

According to Christos Pourgourides, the final text of his statement can become a real ‘explosion’ for the civilized Europe.

“There is strong evidence that the Belarusian authorities are involved to abductions of people and concealment of these cases. As for concealment of the cases, there are more than enough proofs for that”, he believes.
