An activist of the civil initiative Cahter’97, a member of human rights department Natallya Kalyada was interrogated in the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Belarus on January 15. Official of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Paval Radzivonaw displayed interest in the work of the civil initiative Charter’97, its human rights department and press center. In particular, the official expressed his disapproval with the monitoring of human rights violations done by human rights department of Charter’97. In this connection the officer of the Prosecutor’s Office asked about Natallya Radzina, a press center worker who takes part in monitoring preparation.
Paval Radzivonaw also made inquiries about the civil initiative Charter’97, who is the head of it and who are its activists. During the interrogation, following advice of her advocate Harry Pahanyaila, Natallya Kalyada used article 27 of the Constitution and refused to give evidence.
Radzivonaw’s interest in Charter’97 monitoring can be explained by the fact that more than once his name appeared in the list of executors of repressions. For instance, in October last year it was Paval Radzivonaw who demanded written explanation from “Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta” deputy editor-in-chief Iryna Khalip for publication of her two articles in Russian newspaper the “Novaya Gazeta”.
