On January 16 Aksana Novikava, sentenced in April 2003 to a suspended term in a criminal case for insult of Alyaksandar Lukashenka, was fined 250 basic values, human rights center “Viasna” informs.

On January 16 tax police confiscated rest of newspapers and money from private vendors of independent newspaper “Mestnaya Gazeta”. 
Trial Over Aksana Novikava Cancelled 11:38, 19/01/2004

On January 16 secretary of the court of the Frunze district court of Minsk called Aksna Novikava and said that because on January 12 amnesty was announced, the criminal case of Aksana Novikava was directed to the Committee on execution of sentences for consideration whether the case could be to be included in the amnesty, the human rights center “Viasna” informs. 
Another Independent Newspaper Disappear In Belarus 11:27, 19/01/2004

On January 16 in Svetlahorsk the last issue of the independent newspaper “Region-vesti” was published. It was the forth issue in a row which contained only a TV channels program in it. But even in this form the subscribers were not able to receive it. Svetlahorsk branch of the Homiel regional post office informed the editorial office of the independent newspaper that the contract for delivery of it is unilaterally cancelled.
