Trial Over Aksana Novikava Cancelled 11:38, 19/01/2004
On January 16 secretary of the court of the Frunze district court of Minsk called Aksna Novikava and said that because on January 12 amnesty was announced, the criminal case of Aksana Novikava was directed to the Committee on execution of sentences for consideration whether the case could be to be included in the amnesty, the human rights center “Viasna” informs.
On January 17, 2004 the Frunze district court of Minsk was to carry out hearings on the case of disaffirmation of execution suspension to Aksana Novikava. She was sentenced to two years for insult of Belarusian president. If the court disaffirms the suspension of execution, Aksana Novikava would spend two years in prison. The grounds for possible disaffirmation are numerous administrative cases for active political protests by Novikava.
