On January 27 the Legal Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe confirmed Christos Pourgourides’ report on the missing people in Belarus. The proposal not to admit the Belarusian “MPs” to the PACE sessions was also supported, as Radio Freedom reports.
At the winter PACE session the Belarusian issue was not discussed, but on Tuesday the Legal Committee heard Cyprus deputy Christos Pourgourdies’ report on his two trips to Belarus and two reports on mass media rights’ violation and the missing Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatoly Krasousky and Zmitser Zavadsky. The latter document included a number of serious proposals: a request for general prosecutor Viktar Sheiman’s dismissal and international trials on the cases of the missing people.
On January 27 the PACE Legal Committee supported Christos Pourgourides’ report on the missing in Belarus by unanimous vote. Thus, the previous memorandum “The Missing People in Belarus” became the final report and an official PACE document.
