NEWS  Belarusian MPs are not welcome in PACE 15:53, 29/01/2004 On January 28 the issue of resuming Belarus in the status of a specially invited to the PACE became the topic of discussion at the session of the political fractions in Strasburg. On January 29 leaders of the fractions have to report their mind to the Assembly Bureau. None of the most influential fractions, neither Socialist, nor Christian Democratic, nor Liberal, supported the Belarusian Parliament’s request of the status recognition. Moreover, the PACE MPs support Christos Pourgourides’ report, which contains serious calls for the introduction of the sanctions against the country, if its authorities do not start an independent investigation and do not punish the guilty.
