Court of the Lenin Distruct of Minsk partially answered to the claim of “Alliance Media Ltd.” and editor-in-chief of the “Obozrevatel” Syarhei Atroschanka against editorial office of the newspaper “Narodnaya Volya”. The court obliged the newspaper to print the disclaimer of one of the articles, published before. Besides, according to the court decision, the editorial office is to defray sue charges and costs of attorney of Alliance Media Ltd. At the same time, the court refuse charge the “Narodnaya Volya” 50 millions rubles for moral damage of the plaintiff, Radio Racyja informs. It is the result of one of the two suits against “Narodnaya Volya” by S. Atroschanka.
The reason for the suit of the ‘Alliance Media limited’ (a founder of the weekly “Obozrevatel”) against the newspaper was the article published by the “Narodnaya Volya” on September 3, 2003 “Syarhey Atroschankaw’s “Obozrevatel” Treats Leanid Levin Like a Gangster”.
‘Alliance Media limited’ regarded the article of the “Narodnaya Volya” as damaging the reputation of the weekly “Obozrevatel”, and went to court with the suit where demanded to disclaim the information and impose a compensation of 50 million rubles on the defendants.
Narodnaya Volya’s editor-in-chief Iosif Syaredzich told that Atroschanka addressed the prosecutor general with the proposal to shut down the “Narodnaya Volya” only because he received a licence for the trade mark “Narodbaya Volya”.
Syarhei Atroschnka brought another action against the “Narodnaya Volya” because the newspaper published comments of prominent Belarusian businessmen and economists on Atroschanka’s motif of buying shares of well-known English newspaper “Daily Telegraph”. On February 25 the court of Lenin district of Minsk is to consider this suit. The editor of the “Obozrevatel” thinks that the newspaper insulted his honour, dignity and business reputation, and demand recover 50 millions rubles, the Belarusian Association of Journalists informs.
