Lukashenka Gets Ready For War
14:26, 23/02/2004

“Again, like in the most tragic period of our history, along the borders of Belarus a huge military and strategic potential of by no means friendly character is concentrated”, said Alyaksandar Lukashenka on February 23 at a reception on the occasion of the Defender of the Fatherland and of the Armed Forces Day. It requires being on the alert constantly, to use additional efforts in diplomatic area as well as in development of one’s political potential.

As was underscored by Lukashenka, the new 21ieth century had not brought deliverance from wars, which from had changed, but their effect had not become less devastating. People are perishing, mostly the most defenseless ones – women, elderly, children. A. Lukashenka stressed that after the known events in the Balkans, in the Persian Gulf, in Afghanistan, it has become obvious that the transition to he war of a new time begins to show. It combines information expansion, internal political destabilization and use of the modern weapons.

The results of the three years of reorganization show that the Military Forces of Belarus have reached a new level in a qualitative sense and are able to execute tasks set in modern conditions, the Belarusian leader believes. As said by him, large-scale maneuvers carried out in Belarus during recent years had proved once again that the route had been chosen for ensuring military safety of the state was right.
