Mass ZUBR Action In Minsk Center :: Charter'97 :: News

An action devoted to the theme of political kidnapping in Belarus was held on February 22 in Minsk. More than 100 people with portraits of Yuri Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasowsky, Dzmitser Zavadsky and Hienadz Karpenka, lined along the Skaryna Avenue at 2 p.m. Young people stood facing the roadway from the October Square to the General Post Office at intervals of 2-3 meters. Beside Zubr activists, mother of the abducted journalist, Volha Zavadskaya, took part in the action.

The action lasted half an hour. After the action seven activists were arrested. Four of them were released right after they showed their passports. Tsimafej Dranchuk, coordinator of the movement, as well as Zubr activists Pavel Yukhnevich and Ruslan Marazievich were taken to the city police department of the Lenin district of Minsk. They were asked for explanation. At 6 p.m. they were released.

“The actions devoted to the missing people are to continue until the conscientious investigation of the politically motivated abductions carried out and the guilty punished”, press service of the Zubr movement informs.
